Rest In Peace DJ Lalo...Enjoy Yourself in di Mas..

I saw this article this morning...and was sooo shocked and disheartened by it.
I knew DJ Lalo as the LONG standing Dj for Generation X for years upon years.

When I worked with Generation X myself i considered him a TRUE professional, a PURE soca lover...and a generally decent person all round...

I know his immediate family will mourn him....but his larger CARNIVAL family will also.

Rest In Peace..

" Enjoy yourself in di mas....cause you never know....."

DJ Kewal "Lalo" Ragbir, one of the main providers of sound systems for the Carnival industry, was killed yesterday afternoon, following a three vehicle smash-up along the Churchill/Roosevelt Highway, between Trincity Mall and the Holiday Inn Express.

And with just four more days until the official start of revelry, Ragbir's relatives were yesterday unable to say whether or not the show would go on in his absence. One of them told the Express that "right now, we are unable to make any decision with regards to his Carnival commitments".

Also killed in yesterday's accident was Jacqueline Lewis, 49, of Basilon Street, East Dry River, Port of Spain.

According to the police, who have interviewed several eyewitnesses, Lewis was in a burgundy Nissan Almera being driven by her son, Anson King Jnr, 26, heading east along the highway around 12.10 p.m.

According to Lewis's husband, Anson King Snr, they were heading to the Piarco International Airport to pick up relatives. Behind them was a silver coloured Mazda 323 driven by Nancy Stevenson.

According to the police, while Stevenson lost control of her car ran while attempting to overtake and ran into the back of the Nissan, causing that vehicle to spin out of control. The Nissan, which was in the right lane, slammed into the highway's median, knocked over a small tree and ran into Ragbir's three tonne truck, which was heading west. After being hit, Ragbir too lost control and knocked over a lamp post located in the median and crossed over into the east bound lane.

When fire officers arrived they used the jaws of life to free Ragbir from the mangled truck. He was immediately taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Lewis died on the spot. She too had to be cut from the wreckage of the Almera.

Her son, King Jnr, was taken to the Arima Health Centre and was listed in stable condition last night.

The Express was told last night he did not know about his mother's death.

The other victim in this accident, Stevenson, was also taken to the Arima Hospital and her condition was listed as stable last night.

Ragbir's relatives did not want to say much when contacted by the Express.

Upon hearing the news of Ragbir's death, several fellow DJs, including Joel "Signal to Noise" Morris, visited his College Road, St Augustine home yesterday afternoon, as the family prepared for a wake.

Several officers from the Arouca Police Station visited the scene yesterday, including Snr Supt Maharaj, ASP Wesley Moore, Ag Cpl Hospedales and PC Worrel. Cpl Hospedales is continuing investigations.
