Band Launch Review: Mascots International
Mascots presented "Once upon a Time" at Studio 5 Ten on Saturday. I wish someone had told me though to go there in my bra and panty instead. It was HOT!!!! My first time at the venue and after getting word that the costumes were going on around 1am I left my house at 1 and walked in and almost passed out. IT WAS HOT!! If it wasn't for the music and the drinks and finding a fan in the corner and that everybody was partying I would have passed out.
At about 130 out of the blue I saw a headpiece on stage, I was unable to find space at the front of the stage so was only able to see costumes after they exited.
Mascots has 4 sections for their 2013 presentation. On Saturday they presented 3 sections and their 4th section, Atlantis, is going to come from a new addition to their family but some veteran leaders the De Gannes.

Siren (FL) is the winner for me so far out of the sections. I felt like City of Gold wasn't a finished of a product as the other sections. Agrabba is in second place by .5.

Section Hightlight: Flamingo Casino Mas Miami
After a 2 year absence from Carnival, Flamingo Casino Mas Miami returns this year with a new look and a Special Section "REVIVAL", in Xtasy Mas Band and their presentation of "NEW BEGINNINGS".
REVIVAL is a reawakening of the mind, body and soul. The start of a new journey, a New Beginning.
Flamingo Casino Mas Miami was born from the band Vibrationzz in 2009, much like Tribe from Poison in Trinidad.
The section in the Vegas themed band was called Flamingo Casino and the name stuck and became the Mas group we know of today. Operated solely by Rhonda Berment, she continues to design and work closely with Christine Sadler of Trinidad, one of the most well respected designers and producers of mas.
Look for the Special Section "REVIVAL" on the road October 13th, in Xtasy Mas Band!

Miami Carnival Band Launch
At around 12 there was finally some movement around the stage to see display of costumes. I must say EVERY band has stepped up their game. Their are some really really good costumes being presented. I couldn't stay until the end due to me not feeling well but walking out I was able to see the full lineup of bands. I cannot say there was a band who was a total flop. I see people having to make some hard decisions as to what costumes to choose and which band to play with. It may very well have to come down to loyalty or where your group wants to play.
I know this is going to be a great Miami Carnival with costumes, now for MBOC to make it a great road/track/parking lot experience.

Lauderdale – July 16th 2013 - Emerging Band “D-Junction Mas” is pleased to announce their contracted DJ’s and Sound System for Miami Carnival
2013.
We
have managed to accumulate a cast of well-rounded entertainers, professionals
in their own right, who we believe will successfully create the perfect musical
experience for our masqueraders.
First
on our cast of is the infamous “Walshy Fire.” Highly renowned and respected throughout the
Caribbean music universe as a double-threat MC and selector for Miami’s Grammy winning Black Chiney Sound System, Walshy can
now also be found on the world’s biggest stages as the master of ceremonies for
Diplo’s genre-bending dancehall carnival, Major Lazer.
Also
on the cast is Miami’s Own Sizwe C. Sizwe
can best be described as a true Entertainer South Florida is proud to be
represented by such a dedicated artist.
Noted for his passion, his action-inspiring delivery and sharp lyrics,
his music is by definition as Soca as it gets.
His acclaim as a Hype-Man is also legendary and his understanding of
Soca and boundless energy makes him an asset to any band. We are excited for his contribution to our
team.
Next
on our cast is Jester – “It’s Not a
Joke.” Born and raised in Toronto,
Jester's world-class turntable skills have helped to elevate this talented DJ
far beyond the borders of his Northern homeland. Well known throughout Canada, The USA, Europe
and The Caribbean for expertly spinning Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, Soca, Electro
and countless other styles of music (all with consummate ease), Jester has more
than earned right to the title "North America’s Most Versatile DJ".

Up is Base 2 Muzik Inc – BASE 2
MUZIK – A very well recognized DJ based in South Florida for the past 18 years.
Born in Trinidad, BASE 2 MUZIK started mixing and playing in his early teen years
with one of Trinidad’s top sound systems, Joy Production for over 10 years
before migrating to the US in his early 20’s and began his own brand. BASE 2 MUZIK currently hosts a radio program
on weekdays from 4pm which is broadcasted on four (4) stations
simultaneously. Known for his hype,
selections and mixing
ability,
BASE 2 MUZIK is true Carnival material.
Slim Vibes ends the line up for
our Music choices. An up and coming
South Florida deejay who is well-rounded in playing several genres of music but
specializes in dancehall and Soca. Born in Georgetown, Guyana but raised in
South Florida, Slim Vybez grew up mixing tapes and CDs of reggae, calypso and
hip-hop.

will be provided by SoundRev Media, Inc,
a Miami, Florida based company with over 25 years of experience
specializing in pro audio rentals, sound engineering and audio equipment
Installations. This company encompasses over two decades of experience with
Miami Broward One Carnival, providing top notch quality sound.

CNZ Miami takes a rest for 2013
As I was looking for updates yesterday with CNZ, they have made an official announcement via email today.

I know a few of us were really hyped about what was going to come to Miami after seeing Toronto's costumes.
I wonder where CNZ masqueraders will head??

Miami Carnival Updates or lack of!!
So far there have been about 7 band launches that we know about: Euphoria Mas, Generation X, Bajan4eva, China Mas, Tribal Miami, Ascension Mas and 1 Gye Nyame Productions.
We know of one new band on the scene: D'Junction Mas
We are seeing activity from Party Room Squad, Xtasy Mas.
Major bands that has been extremely quiet is Carnival Nationz Miami and we haven't seen or heard yet about the Wassi Ones and their presentation. We wait patiently!!!!
Since all bands that are participating in this year's event has to present on Saturday at the One Carnival Launch, I am sure all dormant bands would be making their presentation.

Band Launch Review: China Mas - Saga of the Zodiac
After a mix up with dates for China's launch finally it was here. I was, as I was with Gen X, excited to see costumes from China especially after last year's presentation where I felt their overall costume presentation had improved from previous years.The launch was held at the Performing Arts Exchange (PAX) which is a small theater in South Miami. Slated to be from 6pm, I knew it made no sense getting down there too early and guesstimated that presentation may be around 9ish. I got there at 8. I had never been to this location before so had no idea what format was going to be like.
The outside of the venue was setup with a few chairs and tables where people sat mingling as the party wasn't really in full swing yet.. A few tents housed registration and Sweet hand Kathy serving food.
I was a bit confused on entry as while I was walking in I passed two models in costume walking out. I though I had missed the presentation but was informed that nothing yet had happened and the models were still being dressed while a few others walked around in costume inside. That kind of took away from the element of surprise that I like to feel before they announced "models get ready", especially when I only really came to see costume presentation.
After mingling and a few drinks at around 10ish there seemed to be some movement at the stage so we moved inside. The DJ announced that after an artist performed the presentation could start. Finally after a performance and some technical difficulties China Mas presented The Saga of the Zodiac.

My fav out of them all was Earth. It's a nice mix of earth tones with a touch of pink. It looked amazing under the light and will surely be gorgeous in the sun. I love water's Front Line suit. I am not too sure about Ying and Yang though. I assume this one would be catered more to the older people who do not want to be as bare on the road but I didn't feel like much thought was put in place for this costume to be dynamic.
China has it's following being one of the stalwarts in Miami Carnival and I am sure would have no problem filling up.
