Scorch Miami - Pump, Rise & Repeat..... or not?

Monday, September 30, 2013 Drunk or Sober Mind yuh Bizness 1 Comments

So after continusoly hearing people cussing about Scorch tickets and getting them and waiting and not getting them, we (along with other bloggers) received this email with about the process.

How I get it I post it!!

In 2013 it's sad that as West Indians we can not stick together in a world that is falling apart. In a time made to celebrate  unity  its been brought to my attention that its our very own that is trying to keep us separate. Miami carnival is less than 2 weeks away and Scorch has been become a staple for party goers because of their reputation in other places  , but this year you have to select a committee member to get a ticket.  Weird, being last year it was simply first come, first served. Luckily for us being fans of dbandit.com, Dwayne Pitt gave his website viewers permission to select  his name as a committee member in order to get tickets for Saturday night . Picture below:

Me and 7 of my friends registered over a week ago with islandetickets.com and it told us thank you for registering and approval will be sent via email. As of today September 30, it hasn't happened. Then on Friday, September 28th one of our friends asked us what parties we will be attending for Miami Carnival. We told her and we explained to her we are still waiting for Scorch tickets and she will have to register and wait like everyone else but use Dwayne Pitt as a committee member. She did it. She was approved in less than 24 hours. Me and my friends all checked our inbox and spam to see if we were approved as well...nothing. I instantly  said what I was thinking for some time, discrimination. Our friend who was approved is Indian. She has an "Indian name". So I tested my theory. I made another one of my Indian male friends register and my male black friend register at the same time on September 29th using the same committee member; Dwayne Pitt . My Indian friend was approved in less than 12 hours...black friend nada. I then went and made a FAKE account using an "Indian name".  It's been a week and I have not heard back regarding tickets under my real name , but my fake account was approved same day for 5 tickets when the max is 4!!!!

Im writing to let Scorch committee members know, you are in America now and to leave that unprofessional bullshit elsewhere. I won't be shock if there is an increase of "approvals" for this party to people who's last name are NOT Singh, Patel, khan, etc because of this letter but I do want Scorch committee members to know in a state where a young man was shot walking home in the rain simply because he was black, we have  zero tolerance for Caribbean people secluding themselves from OTHER Caribbean people because of the color of their skin. In a time when the Caribbean celebrates together as one, you decided to separate friends from partying together based on NAMES. I have no clue if the rest of the committee members are playing the same game as Mr. Pitt, but what I do know is that he is a reflection of organization and what I see reflecting is unprofessional garbage.

Sincerely,
Zero Tolerance

P.S: The list goes on with fake accounts being approved and the real ones remain untouched.

I am a holder of Scorch tickets. I did have a few technical difficulties with people in my party. And I reached out to my contact who is my approver to let him know. I was already annoyed by the process as I wished it was an easy "buy yuh ticket here" situation. Did I think racism? no, as we did get approved right after I let the person know it was there. Though we did have to change the approver on one request we really had no other problem.

Carnival is bacacacacacacacahanl!!!

Wednesday, September 18, 2013 Drunk or Sober Mind yuh Bizness 0 Comments

Transform  -   The Carnival Edition

It’s 24 days to Miami Carnival , and by now we are in full form finding the perfect accessories and outfits for our favorite season to Shine!!

Come master the art - and the joy - of professional makeup application techniques under the instruction of your favorite make-up artist- Clivia :)

I’ll share my secrets (and the short-cuts) to create that unique Carnival transformation to totally complete your Carnival look.  How to temporarily suspend the sweat glands in your face [yes you can do that], to contour your nose and cheek bones to perfection, where to place the jewels on your face so that they don’t clash with the shape of your headpiece!!

We will cover highlighting and contouring, precision eye makeup, brow shaping, artificial eyelash application, color blending, lip enhancement and corrective makeup techniques. Even how to create abs on your stomach where there are none!!!

This class is the first in a series that will focus on the truly creative possibilities that today's thousands of makeup products - and makeup application tools - can bring.

When: Sunday October 6, 2013 at 3pm

Where:  When you register – the address will be provided

How Much: the Class is $30, with a deposit of $15.00 to secure your space. This $30.00 includes a Signature drink, Music, Light refreshments, Full Strip lashes for each participant, Swarovski Gems and Spirit Gum, Supplemental Makeup as needed. A photographer will also be on site to take before and after pics!

Participants are asked to walk with their current make up bag and if there is a specific look you would like to replicate please walk with it. We will use your existing products to create the looks, and supplement them with my professional tools and recommendations.

If you are interested please sign up on the form below or via this link: http://form.jotform.co/form/32604694847868

Come Play Ah Mas: Carnival Planning...You Ready?

Saturday, September 14, 2013 Drunk or Sober Mind yuh Bizness 0 Comments

If you are anything like me you are now rushing around trying to put things in place for Miami Carnival. I do have a valid excuse though.

By now you should be registered in a band once you plan to play mas or hungrily trying to get into one. You have either paid your down payment or paid in full and what's next? If you still looking check out the Mas Bands section for bands.

Right now I am trying to find my extras: Boots, accessories. The hunt for boots is driving me crazy because I am not allowed to wear wedges this year so I am trying to find some flat boots that are cute and can be decorated.

Make sure to stay in contact with your band section so that you know your cut off date for paying your balance (if there is one) and know when collection maybe. I suggest trying to pay off balance before pickup. It can save you an extra hour standing in the line to pay your balance off. It's carnival weekend you don't want to be in any line for long. Please expect something to happen at pick up, that way when it doesn't you will be pleasantly surprised. Bands start distribution from the Wednesday and a lot of people do not come in until later down and they head to party and then want to try to get costumes so there is a rush. Try to get your costume (or have someone local get it) as early as possible. Please have your little kit with you, in case you have to do any adjustments your self. Trust me you will!!

Last year my band asked that we get to the stadium at 10 am. And I did and was able to park close to the stadium entry which worked well for going home after BUT we did not move off until hours after. The wait wasn't too bad because we had access to our food, drinks and music from early. If you decide to get there later than the time stipulated by your band, I am sure it is not THAT hard to locate your band in the midst of a circle but the hassle of pushing through crowds to find them I would not want to be a part of. Bands have not picked numbers yet, but finding out what number your band is would be a big help. Last year I was able to get the order listing before the day of, hopefully I am able to again this year.

After getting costume and finding band the rest of the day is up to you and your crew. Enjoy it!!

Also as I am doing now, we are also deciding what fetes we going to. Early bird tickets are way better prices than having to pay more at the door or not get any tickets at all. So decide with your crew what parties you all planning to attend and secure tickets whichever way you can. Some events you have to register to get tickets (why I don't know..but) so make sure you know where tickets are available for purchase.

Other than that, with hotel in place and rental in order, all that's left is to party sensibly.

Don't forget to send us reviews after!!

Miami Preparations by now

Thursday, September 05, 2013 Drunk or Sober Mind yuh Bizness 0 Comments

So now Labor Day is over and the next focus for everyone will be Miami Carnival. If you have not started at all making preparations for this one you better get on the ball, especially if you are from out of town.

The hardest thing I suppose is getting hotel reservations. Most out of towners like to go to the "Beach" to be able to enjoy that scenery and party. It is the area to be but it doesn't have to be the area to stay. If South Beach hotels are booked up then there is all the way up to Ft Lauderdale area to get hotels, with a car anything is possible.

The next thing is mas. Researching for carnival bands is major. If you are accustomed playing with a specific band then you are fine, but if you are a first timer (or your band isn't presenting this year) I suppose it can be a little difficult to decide where to go. All bands have had their issues, so do some research, ask around. Majority of the bands are all inclusive. Ensure that you find out from bands what their all inclusive means. If you are not playing but want to take in the "parade" check out www.miamibrowardcarnival.com so that you can get your tickets for entry to the park. Remember we are NO LONGER ON THE ROAD!!

List of bands can be found here: http://www.bgitr.com/p/carnival-resources.html

Miami Broward One Carnival has added J'ouvert to the activities and if you are interested in partaking in that activity, registration is also required for bands.

List of J'ouvert Bands can be found here: http://www.bgitr.com/p/jouvert-bands_19.html

Some people are all about the parties. Flyers are everywhere. Sometimes getting tickets for some events are difficult but where there is a will there is a way. Party flyers can be found Miami Carnival Flyers (continuously updated) and all over facebook.

Get on it!!!

Faces of Carnival: Do or get Done??

Thursday, August 22, 2013 Drunk or Sober Mind yuh Bizness 0 Comments

If you are like me you may want to have that fabulous face for carnival but not sure how to go about doing it. I am a minimalist when it comes to makeup. Since the summer has introduced a bevy of colors I have ventured into trying new lip colors but I am not too sure if I can get that fabulous face I would want on the road this year.

Here area few faces I picked out (some nicely minimal and some with that extra flare) from TriniJungleJuice.com and The Magic Moments pics from Miami last year:

I know a lot of people want that fabulous face on the road, and for those people who don't think they can do it themselves or want that extra humph here are a few professionals that can assist:

Sherry Nabie: Saree Perfect - Highlight from last year and Facebook page

Also added this year with assistance from LovePeaceSoca is Brow Boutique www.browboutiquemiramar.com

This year they are fittingly doing Atlantis (the lost civilization)

Their presentation has three elements.

Backline with Tiara: $225

Backline with Feather Headpiece: $265

Male: $200

Section Leader: $550
