GenerationX Presents "Birds" for Miami Carnival 2008
As promised ...pictures..
Yes..there are more than three sections. These are the ones being sold primarily by Generationx. The other sections are being produced by Individuals or groups and will probably have their own registration process. [ I know ..not Like Trinidad]. Soon I will have that info for you. If you try to register for them on the Genx Site, they will say sold out and not have any links or info to contact the respective individuals. I guess its Genx way of ensuring that their sections sell out first.
Pictures from the Generation X Launch- Miami Carnival 2008 - BIRDS!. [No not Tribe..hahah] Ill have the pictures from the circulated brochure to you soon. The costume pictures above are actually one of the private sections with Genx..and to be perfectly honest...its the one that I like. The Headpiece is gorgeous. Genx services I'm sure will ensure that they have a band thats humongous and people will enjoy playing in. But none of the costumes WOW the hell outta me. Sorry.
They're five GENX sections... All Female costumes are 160.00! and Male costumes $145.00. One private section and in my next post on Genx I'll have info on that one too. lol..whats interesting is like TRIBE..they models are posed with Live birds ...the birds that represent the costume that they're wearing apparently sponsored by the Aviary Bird Shop. Stay tuned for more pictures soon. More pics follow the jump

"In their presentation for 2008, Vibrationzz Inc. explores the saga of the Circle of Life, Man and Woman, Male and Female - two equal but important parts of the completion and ending of life. One cannot survive without the other and the eternal tug of war continues to this day.
As human beings we go through daily trials and obstacles that remove us from the knowledge that we have these divine traits within us.
This is why we have chosen to depict them in their divine personas - as GOD AND GODDESS – with their roles as protectors, inspirations, providers and interceders. We intend to chronicle the glory of their existence and remind you they continually exist, every day, inside of us – the average man.
WE too are GODS AND GODDESSES!
Stay tuned as Vibrationzz reveals these heavenly beings as sections for Miami Carnival 2008. This is the perfect time to elevate yourself from your day to day existence! Release your internal Goddess!! Show your self as the GOD that you are!
Caribbean Heritage.. Here are a few of the pics of the costumes.. Registration is Open and Available at their website My faves from the VIP launch. My only comment...Fadda LORD WHO do the MAKEUP??! sigh

So...I was lucky enough to go see JESUS [for the uninitiated Machel JESUS Montano] in Madison Square Garden earlier this year. Much to the amusement of the people around me, I had a RELIGIOUS experience during the show. Outside of my shoe issues [4 inch NEW heels in NY when you have to take the subway and run - things i DON'T do in Miami is NOT a Good idea] Much thanks for the BANGING Mojitos at TGIF before. I couldn't feel my toes much lest my hands after those , so it was all good.
Anyways...Everybody knows about my love affair with JESUS and David Rudder is no joke either. But I Happened across this on Guanaguanare this morning...and again I was transported. Moved to Tears. I'm such a PUNK and I guess a quiet patriot.
This was SO a MOMENT for me. My cousin who was with me probably thought I was in a coma, or having a breakdown or something. I mean people were screaming and jumping and wining around me. And i could not MOVE. I had my hand up in the air like i was in church--trying to touch them, tough the moment, Hold on to it forever. I think that i did. I didn't need to scream and to wine would be to not respect the moment that was going on .
It was like..Like HOPE for me. Like we Trinidadians could deal with everything and anything if we could still have THIS. THIS moment. Like a cleansing. We could surmount anything as a people..if we could just hold on to THIS.
The Bele dancers in their white were like Trinidadian angels. The white skirts sweeping away all the dirt, all the politics all the grime all the evil. Yes its a pain, but it's a sweet pain with love and hurt and anger and happiness and pride and hope wrapped up in it.
David Rudder was like a Baptist priest: "Throw out your sorrow children , throw out your sorrow children." He was talking to ME. I DOH CARE WHO ELSE WAS THERE!!! he was telling me...he left where ever the ass he was to come sing these words to me...Throw out your sorrow children. I know it was a concert...I know everybody else paid there ticket to come see BOY...but That performance, that song gave me a MOMENT.
Gave me hope, put some pride in my soul straightened my back so in spite of everything I can say. Yes Trinidadian - from the land of Oil and Music
I'm a real Kaiso Head. I love traditional Calypso, Social Commentary. Breakdown of verse bridge and chorus. The band playing full chords and scales, with arrangement in between, and horns. Im showing my Geek haha. But its the type of Trini music that I LOVE to sing myself. Cyah do Soca cause i cant wine like Saucy and Destra.
But I love the belters like Singing Sandra and Tigress. Those powerful voiced women who would carry a tune, with strength in their voice and power in their lyrics. What makes me more impressed by this genre is that it MUST have a balance. Strong Lyrics yes. Double Entendre like only a Trini can do it [sorry other islands] but you must have melody that will make the foot tap, and a singability. YES I SAID SINGABILITY...so that the audience can grab your hook..and sing along with you..tapping their foot or clapping their hands in time and looking around each other like yes i understand it--yes i claim it...we all singing it. Balance.
That type of Genre isn't as popular as it used to be. Soca is commercial. We know that. But Kaiso makes my pores raise, and my heart huge in my chest. We still have belters...Nadia Batson makes me feel like I'm in a calypso tent sometimes...watching a finger wagging, eye rolling, tantrum throwing Singing Sandra admonishing us for our wrongs..
But now we get to the Guess Who of the post. This song is in heavy circulation on my Ipod. Its my picker upper..cheer me up, motivational, proud of trinidad song...EVERYONE NEEDS ONE OF THESE!!
The guess who part is...Listen to the song...Arrangment for DAYSSSSSSSSS
Press play
It's Patrice Roberts. Yes the Machel Montano protegee known for Thunder Waist [playing in my main music box]and Wuking Up and Band of the Year! uh huh. I love the Power in her voice in this song. Its earnest and so relevant. So its a pick me up song in a genre that directly appeals to me. She co-wrote this song too. So I'm doubly impressed.
Lyrics:[excuse the gaps...i typed this while i was singing it..lol..and when I couldn't figure it out i left a gap. Wouldn't it be nice is someone did this for us?Tell patrice send it to me nah..]
